Water is pure and soft in Japan, so you can drink it from the tap. But of late years especially in big cities, people prefer to buy water in supermarkets.

The Japanese are very fond of green tea. Japanese tea is brewed well only in soft water. One among many regions where they produce high-quality tea is prefecture Sizuoka.

Green tea is very popular in Japan, and there are not just one sort. Hozi-cha and mugi-cha are very popular. During tea ceremonies the Japanese are very fond of macha. This kind of tea is well known all over Japan, especially in Uji (Kyoto).

The most popular strong drink in Japan is sake. Every region has it's own way of preparation. It is made of rice and water only. The quality of staff has a great effect on its taste. That's why the own sake has the original taste.

There are many kinds of sake in Japan. One of the most popular is "Doburoku", or "opaque sake".

The other kind of sake is "amazake". The Japanese drink it on the 3rd of March, (Girl's Day).

Young generation prefers syochu. This kind of alcohol is suitable to various dishes. Besides, in the morning there is no hangover after the night before. They say, syochu is very useful for health. It is made of rice, wheat, yam and buckwheat. You can drink it with hot or cold water, juice or as it is. One of the most popular syochu is from Kyushu Island. There is an original sake "Awamori" from Okinawa Island. In contrast to syochu it is made of rice "Indica".
