Sekihan (Red rice)
Ingredients (4 servings):
1 cup of mochigome (rice for mochi)
1 cup of uruchigome
500 ml red beans (azuki)
Sesame seeds with salt to taste
Preparation:
1. Wash azuki and put in a pan with water and bring it to a boil. When it boils change water and bring it to a boil again. When it is brought to a boil, simmer it. Mind the bean's skin not split.
2. Drain beans on the colander. As for water, set it aside.
3. Wash mochigome and rice and set it aside on the colander for 30 min.
4. Add beans, mochigome and rice in a pan with water and boil it on high heat. After boiling, simmer it.
5. Put rice on a plate and sprinkle with sesame seeds and salt.
6. Red color is considered to be the color of happiness in Japan.
