There are more than 140 types of jack mackerel. 40 types of jack mackerel live in coastal waters of Japan.

Maaji and muroaji are the most widespread types of jack mackerel. It is used in cooking of sushi. Otherwise, maaji and muroaji is served in fried way (yakizakana).
