Japanese pears are cultivated in Hokkaido and Kyushu. Japanese pears are mentioned in books of the VII century. They are very healthy and considered as "kings of fruits". They are necessary for people who suffer from stomach diseases. Japanese pears contain calcium. That's why they help to reduce high blood pressure. Otherwise, they prevent caries, thanks to maintenance of sorbite.
Japanese pears can be divided in two groups: red pear and blue pear.
Chozuro is the most famous sort of red pears. It is cultivated in Kanagawa and Kosui prefectures. They contain 12% of sugar.
Nijuseiki is the most popular blue pear. It is cultivated in Chiwa prefecture. The word "nijuseiki" means "the XX century". The inventor of this sort wanted to express the hope that nijuseiki would be the "king of fruits" in the XX century.
