Tsukudani

In the XVII century in the settlement called Tsukudajima people occupied with fishing. As the settlement was situated on an island, there was very little food. That's why people invented the way of keeping fish - tsukudani. They began to boil fish with soy sauce. Tsukudani was also sold in the Tokyo streets, where it was eaten with boiled rice. It was also used in cooking obento and breakfast as a light snack with the stuffing of rice balls onigiri.
