How to choose antique furniture and care for it
When you buy antique Japanese furniture pay attention to following:

Repair
Upon repair of wooden box use glue excess of which is easy removable. In old times Japanese used the glue made from boiled rice and hot water.
For leveling any dents and holes use special putty. Repair in the following way:
1. Fill up a dent or hole with putty mixed with sawdust.
2. Wet you fingers and neatly restore the original view of the part. Immediately take away excess of the putty or you'll have unnecessary work later. When the putty dried up, make the trimmings with cutting tool or emery paper.
Color picking up
Make the tincture with water-colour of wanted color. You can apply a layer of diluted Indian ink on the water-colour. It is gives a touch of antiquity. Make the trimmings with wax.
Handling of metal parts
If a metal part is broken or lost, buy resembling and handle it a la antique. Using rag and brush paint the part with black shoe-polish and burn it. If the color came off unequal, repeat till required result. Or you can use special liquids for metal.
